The Great Barrington Declaration, signed last weekend, has unleashed a torrent of criticism. This was to be expected, since it conflicts with the public health prescription that has attained a religious-like status in many circles: lockdowns and social distancing must be enforced in order to stop or slow transmission of the coronavirus.
The authors of the Declaration, three of the world’s most renowned epidemiologists, urge an entirely different approach. Those not vulnerable to severe illness and death from the virus – especially children and younger adults – should live as they did pre-March 2020. Doing so will, within a couple of months, generate herd immunity, allowing communities to return to relative normalcy.
The overwhelming majority of condemnation that the Declaration has received does not bear on the substance of its recommendations.

On Sunday night, after LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title, thousands of fans of the team celebrated outside the Los Angeles Staples Center, but things turned ugly when some members of the crowd targeted police, hurling rocks and bottles at them.
Despite the coronavirus restrictions placed on public activity in California and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti urging fans to stay home and avoid congregating, fans ignored the warnings and gathered en masse.
“LAPD went into tactical alert and declared the gathering an unlawful assembly,” KABC reported. “Cars were seen performing ‘donuts’ and ‘burnouts,’ some cars were swarmed by fans in the streets. Multiple fireworks were set off and there were isolated reports of small groups throwing rocks and bottles at police.”

President Donald Trump on Friday defended himself and his supporters against allegations that they were “racist.”
Trump spoke about the left during a virtual radio rally with talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh on Friday, in response to a question from a listener.
“When we are beating them they have nothing else to fall back on but the word racist,” he said. “It means that when you’re winning and you’re just knocking the hell out of them, they have nothing else to say, they call you a racist and this has been going on for decades.”
Trump said he and Limbaugh were constantly accused of being racists by the left, but said that many Americans could see through the political tactic.

I think that his campaign team wanted something forwarding looking and that sounded optimistic, but it isn’t exactly original. In fact, the Trump campaign has pointed out that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was using the slogan long before Biden ever did…
If you thought Joe Biden’s clunky, tax-and-spend slogan “Build Back Better” sounds like unoriginal, political consultant-speak, you’re right. In fact, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is using the same slogan and was doing so before Joe Biden stole it.
You can watch video of both politicians using the “Build Back Better” slogan right here. Considering the issues that Biden has had with plagiarism in the past, his team probably should have gone with another choice.

The window allegedly “gave offense” because Fisher also headed up Cambridge University’s eugenics research program, which has, through accusation and Third Reich genetic experiments, come to be associated with racism. The removed window says nothing about eugenics and depicts a mathematical model that Fisher devised. Nevertheless, newspaper headlines, such as The Guardian’s, described the window as commemorating an eugenicist, not the greatest statistics genius of all time. shorturl.at/acdeO
The Guardian was unable to point out that it was a Cambridge University research program, not Fisher’s. The Guardian also failed to wonder how ignorant BLM thugs had ever heard of R.A. Fisher. Leaving aside the stupidity of massive new borrowing and spending on top of the past year’s multi-trillions, walking away from those talks seemed like a really bad political move.

It’s a difficult time to be a deficit hawk.
In March, Congress passed the CARES Act, named to show what lawmakers on both sides of the aisle wanted to be seen to be doing in the wake of the economic devastation caused by the outbreak of COVID-19. They cared to the tune of about $2.2 trillion, all of it billed to the deficit, making it the single biggest legislative care package in history by a wide margin. It was the first time Congress had ever passed a bill with a trillion-dollar price tag. As a point of comparison, the Affordable Care Act, the 2010 health law that would be known as Obamacare, which was viewed as unusually costly, had to be whittled down during the legislative process so as not to technically exceed the trillion-dollar mark. Its 10-year price tag, at the time of passage, came in around $940 billion.

In a stunning rebuke of the “science” and the “doctors” and leftist politicians and career bureaucrats in the US and across much of The West, The Epoch Times’ Evan Pentchoukov reports that The World Health Organization’s special envoy on COVID-19 has urged world leaders to stop using lockdowns as the primary control method against the spread of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus.
“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” David Nabarro told The Spectator in an interview aired on Oct. 8.
“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

Nabarro pointed to the collateral damage that lockdowns are having worldwide, especially among poorer populations.

Money manager Axel Merk manages about $1 billion in assets. Surprisingly, the signals he is getting from the markets are relatively calm despite the political storm sweeping the country. Merk explains, “The markets are not pricing in a panic. There is also a betting market about when the results are going to be known, and that has priced in less tensions. The results are going to be known sooner rather than later. The markets are pricing in a clear winner.”
Maybe the markets are seeing what Merk is seeing no matter who wins in November. Merk says, “We love one guy and hate the other guy. I care more about fiscal spending. As I said earlier, yeah, we are going to spend a boatload of money. They are going to spend it a little differently and on different priorities, but they are going to spend a boatload of money. They are politicians, and they can’t help it. One big difference with Trump is we are going to get a reduction in regulation and regulatory burden, and with Biden we will get an increase.”

The Social Security Trust Fund – officially the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund – closed the fiscal year 2020 at the end of September with a balance of $2.81 trillion, the second highest fiscal-year close, behind 2017, up by $6.8 billion from a year ago, and up by $10 billion from two years ago, according to figures released by the Social Security Administration. The Trust Fund has vacillated in the same range since 2016, after growing substantially over the past decade.
The balance is seasonal and peaks in June. The all-time peak was in June 2017, at $2.85 trillion. In June this year, the balance was $2.84 trillion. So far so good:

The sudden resignation of Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has led to evaluations of his so-called Abenomics. Many have praised Abe’s aggressive monetary policy because the long shopping list of the Bank of Japan (government bonds, corporate bonds, ETFs and real estate investment trusts) has inflated stock and real estate prices (Shirai 2020; Financial Times 2020). Concerns remain on the fiscal side since Abe’s consumption tax hikes from 5 percent to 8 percent in 2014 and to 10 percent in 2019 are widely seen as a failure (The Economist 2020). Indeed, Abe resolved Japan’s deep-seated fiscal problems only superficially.

As media polls continue to mislead about the state of the presidential race, there are many reasons to believe the Democrats are crazed with fear that they will be trounced more soundly this time — as they should be, given their nominees. Here are some indicators to me: The majority of voters think they are better off now than they were four years ago; the crowds at Trump rallies are enormous and Biden can barely pull a 10-person minyan; outside of university towns there are few Biden-Harris signs up, but American flags (a safe sign when Trump signs would be stolen) are seen waving on front lawns and guns are flying off the shelves to people who have lost faith in their elected local officials to protect them. There are more, of course, but believe what the media would call your own lying eyes.
The President has been fighting idiotic policies and corruption bit by bit across both aisles, but it’s hard to find any institution that could pass a smell test. This week is no exception. We learned the Department of Defense has been forcing the troops to undergo anti-American propaganda; the VOA had peddled a video of Biden attacking the police and calling for jihad; and the Commission on Presidential Debates has ruined its reputation forever and is likely to never again be seen after this year.
