Flashback: Left-Wing Media Attacks Claim Obamacare Premiums Will Rise

Media attacks 2010 “right-wing” claims that Obamacare will cause premiums to skyrocket

by Infowars.com
Info Wars

Several prominent left-wing media outlets attacked claims that the Affordable Care Act would cause premiums to rise years before it indeed happened.

A 2010 tweet from White House mouthpiece Media Matters was circulated widely Monday just moments after the Obama administration confirmed that premiums were set to rise by as much as 116 percent.

[…] “Right-wing media are using an exchange between President Obama and Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to falsely claim that the Senate health care bill would cause individual health insurance premiums to increase,” Media Matters wrote at the time. “In fact, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that the Senate’s version of health care reform would result in lower premiums for most individual enrollees.”

Rigged Election: Hillary and Trump Caught Partying Like BFF’s With Kissinger at Jesuit Gala

by Jeff Berwick
Dollar Vigilante

We have been very, very suspicious of Donald Trump since he began his political run.

Many believed he was an outsider who was our “only hope” to tame the US federal government beast. But it has become very clear he is not.

First, Wikileaks showed that Killary herself actually approved Trump to be her competitor. According to an email sent from an assistant at the Clinton campaign, Hillary was aware that Trump was going to run before the political process was fully underway.

Clinton advised the mainstream media to push his legitimacy as a “pied piper” candidate because she realized, after looking at the poll numbers, that she wouldn’t stand a chance at winning the presidency against any of the establishment republicans without making them “pied pipers” – it just so happened that Donald was the easiest to play the role considering his long history of friendship with the Clintons.

Richmond Fed Confirms Weakest Economic Trend Since 2008

from Zero Hedge

For the first time since 2012, the Richmond Fed business surveyr has been in contraction (below 0) for 3 straight months (and 4 of the last 5). Worse still, the six-month average of the business survey has not deteriorated this fast since Q2 2008. While the underlying components were mixed, inventory levels dropped (bad for GDP), average workweek tumbled (bad for incomes), and new orders re-plunged.

This is the worst drop in the six-month average of the Richmond Fed survey since Q2 2008…

The War Against Payday Lending

by Jonathan Lee
Mises.org

In June of 2016, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) put forward a proposal to regulate the short-term loan industry. The Small Dollar Lending Rule seeks to “alleviate and solve” for the “apparent weaknesses” of the current rates and short-term lenders by requiring “lenders to assess and verify a borrower’s income, housing costs, and credit and legal obligations.”

The intention of the proposal is to protect low-income families from being caught in an endless cycle where many are “forced to take out another loan to make ends meet.” At first glance, it seems that the rule would solve problems in an industry known for its “dirtiness.” Except policymakers are thinking with their hearts while sitting in their air-conditioned offices, away from the facts and any form of interaction with the real world of short-term loans. Just the fact that they see the short-term loan industry as “dirty” supplies sufficient reason to believe that either these policymakers are ignorantly prejudiced or plainly manipulative.

This Calculator Shows Your Tax Bill if Clinton or Trump Plans Became Reality

by Steve Goldstein
Market Watch

So, what would your tax bill be like under a President Hillary or a Donald-in-Chief?

The Tax Foundation has created a calculator based on the two candidates’ plans.

These are back-of-the-envelope calculations, to be fair, and would have to be enacted by members of Congress, who may well have ideas of their own.

But for illustrative purposes, the calculator may have use in determining which candidate would best represent your (tax) interests.

Exclusive: Chinese Miners in Talks for Stake in Barrick’s Veladero Mine – Sources

by John Tilak and Nicole Mordant
Reuters.com

China’s Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd and Shandong Gold Mining Co Ltd have held separate talks with Barrick Gold Corp to buy a 50 percent stake in its Veladero gold mine in Argentina, according to four sources with knowledge of the process.

Veladero is one of Barrick’s five core mines; all are in the Americas. It is expected to produce between 580,000 and 640,000 ounces of gold this year.

The high quality of the mine, production capacity and the prospect for geographical diversification have appealed to the state-owned Chinese suitors, said three of the sources, who requested anonymity because the matter is private. All spoke over the past week.

Dumb American Youth

by Walter E. Williams
LewRockwell.com

Do you wonder why Sen. Bernie Sanders and his ideas are so popular among American college students? The answer is that they, like so many other young people who think they know it all, are really uninformed and ignorant. You say, “Williams, how dare you say that?! We’ve mortgaged our home to send our children to college.” Let’s start with the 2006 geographic literacy survey of youngsters between 18 and 24 years of age by National Geographic and Roper Public Affairs.

Less than half could identify New York and Ohio on a U.S. map. Sixty percent could not find Iraq or Saudi Arabia on a map of the Middle East, and three-quarters could not find Iran or Israel. In fact, 44 percent could not locate even one of those four countries. Youngsters who had taken a geography class didn’t fare much better. By the way, when I attended elementary school, during the 1940s, we were given blank U.S. maps, and our assignment was to write in the states. Today such an assignment might be deemed oppressive, if not racist.

Report: China Could Be on Verge of Gold Buying Boom

by Frik Els
Mining.com

On Tuesday gold continued to trade sideways with December futures trading on the Comex market in New York exchanging hands at $1,270.50 an ounce. While down more than $100 an ounce from two-year highs touched in July, year to date the metal is still managing gains of nearly 20%, one of its best annual performances since 1980.

Gold’s run-up in 2016 is largely thanks to investors in developed markets snapping up tonnes in listed physically-backed gold ETFs and large-scale speculators on gold derivatives markets placing record-setting bets on a higher gold price (although that trend’s moved into reverse recently).

The Unstoppable Spread of Armed Drones

by Stratfor
Financial Sense

[…] Analysis

The presence of armed drones is a reality of the modern battlefield, but only a limited group of countries has the technological ability to produce them or the military capacity to operate them. The United States once held the edge in drone development and use, but as more countries gain access to the technology, armed drones have entered a new stage of proliferation. From the perspective of the United States and others, this proliferation is dangerous. Attempts to curb the spread of armed drones are becoming more difficult now that the United States is no longer their sole developer. China, in particular, has grown as a global exporter of unmanned combat systems, and other countries are planning to follow suit.

Saskatchewan Community ‘Ashamed’ After Stray Beaver Beaten to Death with a Chair

[Ed. Note: This is what passes for a controversy in Canada… We could only hope for life to get this good!. ~Kerry.]

by The Canadian Press
National Post

WOLSELEY, Sask. — Some people in a small Saskatchewan community say they are disgusted and disappointed after a beaver was beaten to death with a chair.

Residents say surveillance video from a bakery in Wolesley showed four men leaving a bar on Friday and going after the rodent.

Resident Joselyn Linnell says the beaver had been hanging out around the village for about a year.

Linnell says the animal appears to have hissed at the men before it was killed.

Stupid Stuff, Late-2016 Edition

by John Rubino
Dollar Collapse

Cyclical turning points tend to feature large numbers of people doing and saying what in retrospect turn out to be amazingly dumb things. Think GM highlighting its line of Hummers just before an oil price spike bankrupts the company. Or half the world betting that tech stocks with infinite P/E ratios would keep rising in 2000. Or pretty much everything that was said and done in the housing market in 2006.

Today’s financial bubble is vastly bigger and more wide-spread than any of its predecessors, so the stupidity is correspondingly global and varied. Some examples:

When Gold Will Explode Higher …

by Larry Edelson
Money & Markets

As I pointed out last week – gold is poised to explode higher.

And there are plenty of other forces getting ready to light a fire under its price.

Just last Friday, internet users around the world, but mostly in the U.S., reported that some top websites were not loading. This was from a massive cyber-attack on one of the main hubs for internet traffic on the east coast, bringing down several websites. Some of the affected sites include Amazon, Twitter, Netflix, Etsy, GitHub, and Spotify.

The purpose of this type of attack is to overload the service in any way possible and make it stop working or be unreachable. That basically means hackers are overwhelming the servers with useless data and repeated load requests, preventing useful data — like an IP address, for example — from getting through.

How Half Of America Lost Its F**king Mind

by David Wong
The Burning Platform

I’m going to explain the Donald Trump phenomenon in three movies. And then some text.

There’s this universal shorthand that epic adventure movies use to tell the good guys from the bad. The good guys are simple folk from the countryside …

[…] … while the bad guys are decadent assholes who live in the city and wear stupid clothes:

[…] In Star Wars, Luke is a farm boy …

[…] … while the bad guys live in a shiny space station:

The Rise of the Politics of Rage

from Zero Hedge

Rage is all the rage these days, but as Barclays notes, what appears less well understood is that this voter rebellion, “the Politics of Rage”, spans nearly all advanced economies, has been taking place for more than a decade, is unparalleled in modern history, and is deeply entrenched.

This is not just about Brexit or the US election; it is about a global political movement.

More troubling, from a market perspective, is that its roots may be misunderstood. Misperceptions in politics tend to lead to volatile surprises, such as Brexit, or to misdiagnoses and to policy mis-prescriptions that imply even worse outcomes for asset prices.

Are You a Libertarian? Is Gary Johnson One?

by Eric Peters
Eric Peters Autos

Gary Johnson describes himself as a Libertarian but isn’t one.

A Libertarian is not a “socially liberal/fiscally conservative” Republican – which is what Johnson is, even if he doesn’t realize it.

Republicans, just like Democrats, believe the use of coercion to organize society and direct the actions of individuals contrary to their will is morally legitimate; they just prefer to use less of it – and for different reasons – than Democrats.

It’s like the difference between Coke and Pepsi… .

Johnson supports forcing people to have their children vaccinated (and according to a schedule decreed by government; that is, by people such as himself). He believes it is acceptable to threaten people with violence in order to compel them to hand over their money (taxes) just like a Democrat; the only difference being the use to which these extorted funds are put. Johnson prefers taxes designed to combat “climate change” or to fund the United Nations. But he does not object to taxes in principle.

It is Happening Again! Voting Machines Are Switching Votes from Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton

by Michael Snyder
The Economic Collapse Blog

Is the 2016 election in the process of being stolen? Just a few weeks ago I issued a major alert warning that this exact sort of thing might happen. Early voting has already begun in many states, and a number of voters in Texas are reporting that the voting machines switched their votes from Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton. The odd thing is that none of the other choices were affected when these individuals attempted to vote for a straight Republican ticket. If Hillary Clinton is declared the winner of the state of Texas on election night, a full investigation of these voting machines should be conducted, because there is no way that Donald Trump should lose that state. I have said that it will be the greatest miracle in U.S. political history if Donald Trump wins this election, but without the state of Texas Donald Trump has exactly zero chance of winning. So those living down in Texas need to keep reporting anything unusual that they see or hear when they go to vote.

World’s First Commercial Driverless Delivery: 45,000 Cans of Beer

by Mike ‘Mish’ Shedlock
Mish Talk

Otto, a driverless technology company bought out by Uber, just completed its first driverless mission.

It was a beer run of 45,000 to 50,000 cans of Budweiser from an Anheuser-Busch facility in Loveland, Colorado to a destination in Colorado Springs, about 120 miles away.

A quick check of my calendar says this is still 2016, not 2045, not 2030, and not the twelfth of never.

A driver did take the truck from Loveland to a weigh station in Fort Collins but from that location Otto took over for 100 miles without driver intervention.

A human driver then completed the city delivery.
