The Rise of the Warrior Cop and the direct threat to your liberties. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Don’t allow the cops to be out shot and over powered. Provide them with the equipment and firepower they need to keep order and keep you safe. Unfortunately, like most good ideas the government comes up with, mission creep has set in. SWAT teams are now used for all manner of law enforcement, from the most trivial to the most serious. It doesn’t seem to matter which, as long as you’re intimidated and kept in check.

Long term bullion dealer Barry Stuppler believes that today was a big one for the precious metals markets. Simultaneously passing through $1300 for gold and $20 for silver is significant. It should have the effect of shaking the shorts out and preparing the way for the next rally through $1400 and perhaps $1500 as well. The Asians have stepped up their buying and we’re even seeing buying out of Japan. At the same time, production is declining. Newmont, Barrick and many other producers have cut back their production, which will lead to shortages. This could be an exciting time for precious metals.

According to Kate Tulenko, MD, immigrants used to take lower paying jobs that Americans wouldn’t work at. Now that’s changed. Immigrants, especially under the proposed law, will be getting more higher paying high tech jobs and more health care positions. The US isn’t investing in higher paying jobs for Americans. Under the perverse incentives in place, non-Americans will be getting first dibs on these much sought after jobs. Entirely unfair and un-American.

The City of Detroit finally did the unthinkable, it filed for Chapter 9 Bankruptcy. There’s so much going against the Motor City, it’s hard to see it ever recovering even a glimmer of its former glory. A Michigan judge is trying to throw a monkey wrench into the whole process by issuing a ruling that the city’s filing is unconstitutional under the state’s constitution, as it will result in the reduction of retiree benefits, an outcome which is clearly forbidden under Michigan’s constitution. But bankrupting a city and its taxpayers is fully permissible. Good luck on that one.

Well gold seems to be coming back from its deep sleep. After three back to back double digit gains we get word from the Fed that Uncle Ben is throwing in the towel. He thinks the Fed will need to keep buying bonds into the foreseeable future, so much for the much anticipated tapering.
