Border Patrol Chief Says He Can’t Comply with Biden’s Demand to Change Immigration Terms

Border Patrol Chief Rodney S. Scott is pushing back against what he saw as the White House’s premature order to stop using certain immigration-related terms, like “illegal alien.”

How we got here: The Biden administration earlier this week sent a memo to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, asking them to enforce certain changes in the language they use to refer to illegal immigration. Specifically, the administration asked the agencies to avoid the terms “alien,” “illegal alien” and “assimilation” and replace them with “noncitizen or migrant,” “undocumented” and “integration.”

In official statements, both the CBP and ICE suggested they will follow the White House’s orders.

The story: Scott sent a memo to the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner at the CBP, Troy A. Miller, saying he will not comply with the proposed changes. The memo was sent on April 16. and titled “Updated Terminology for U.S. Customs and Border Protection April 16,” according to Breitbart, which obtained the document.
