Nine health officials in New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration have stepped down or retired in the past few months amid disagreements with the Democrat governor over the state’s vaccine rollout plan.
The withdrawals come as Cuomo had excluded top health officials from conversations about coronavirus policies, which the governor made in collaboration with hospital executives, leaving his health officials to learn of the policies only through his press conferences, according to a report by The New York Times.
Among those who have left the governor’s administration are New York’s director of the bureau of communicable disease control, the official in charge of health data, as well as Elizabeth Dufort, medical director of the division of epidemiology and Jill Taylor, director of Wadsworth laboratory, according to the Times.
Top state health officials expressed their concerns about Cuomo’s approach.
