David Atkins, a political contributor and member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in California, on Wednesday suggested the tens of millions of supporters of President Donald Trump in the U.S. should start being de-programmed (or re-indoctrinated) once Trump leaves office in January.
In a tweetstorm Wednesday, Atkins compared Trump and his supporters to a “belligerent cult” and the post-Trump era in the U.S. to “post-WWII Germany or Japan,” adding that Democrats need to start thinking how to “deprogram 75 million” Trump supporters.
“No seriously…how *do* you deprogram 75 million people? Where do you start? Fox? Facebook? We have to start thinking in terms of post-WWII Germany or Japan. Or the failures of Reconstruction in the South,” Atkins began.
“This is not your standard partisan policy disagreement. This is a conspiracy theory fueled belligerent death cult against reality & basic decency. The only actual policy debates of note are happening within the dem coalition between left and center left,” Atkins wrote.
