We’re about to eliminate everything that’s even remotely burdensome about cars. And it’s all happening in the next 10 years — maybe even sooner.

No doubt you’ve heard about Google’s self-driving car by now. The company started its program in 2009. Since then, its test fleet of 58 automated vehicles (AVs) has traveled more than 1.5 million miles throughout the western United States.

Again, this is just a pilot program. Google is determined to perfect its technology and build a completely new driving experience before taking its cars public. But it better not drag its feet, because every other major car manufacturer, plus Apple, is competing in this space.
