A suspect in the Dallas sniper attack that left five police officers dead was killed when authorities detonated a bomb, bringing an end to a long standoff.
That suspect has been identified as Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, who lived in the Dallas area, law-enforcement officers told several news outlets.
The explosives were sent in after hours-long negotiations broke down with the suspect, who had been cornered at El Centro College in Dallas, the city’s Chief of Police David O. Brown said in a news conference on Friday. An exchange of gunfire followed the talks, after which a robot was sent in with the explosive device.
“Other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger,” Brown said. “The suspect is deceased as a result of detonating a bomb.”
