In a major development, the Justice Dept. has granted immunity to a former State Department staffer who set up Hillary Clintons, illegal, private email server.
According to this morning’s editions of the Washington Post and the New York Times, the FBI has secured the cooperation of Bryan Pagliano who worked on Clinton’s 2008 campaign before setting up the basement server in Clinton’s home in 2009.
A senior law enforcement official said that the FBI hopes to wrap up their investigation in early May.
In future weeks, the FBI may question Mrs. Clinton’s closest aides and then the candidate, herself.
Typically, defense attorneys advise their clients not to participate in such interviews, but in Mrs. Clinton’s case, refusing to cooperate with the FBI would provide ready ammunition to Republican front-runner, Donald Trump.
The FBI had already interviewed Mr. Pagliano, and has now decided to grant him immunity from prosecution to provide additional information, a move that may spell prosecutions of those interviewed after him.
The development will certainly throw a significant amount of disarray into the ongoing Democrat presidential race.
I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day.
