Perhaps it’s no coincidence that Idol became a hit around the time the US Economy began its grand unraveling. And now Idol is in the midst of its own unraveling, thanks in part at least to Nicki Manaj and Mariah Carey. The world will no doubt be a better place. When you’re trying to understand the state of American Culture, you need go no further than your nearest reality tv show. All of society’s latest trends are sure to be over-represented there.
