This is not the October we’ve come to know. And that’s not just because of the Chicago Cubs are still playing. No, these just haven’t felt like October markets.
This week, however, had all the makings of mayhem even before AT&T dropped its acquisition bomb on Saturday. Perhaps a flood of newsy developments will jolt a market that’s looking more than a little worn-out heading into the 2016 home stretch.
But the way things have been lumbering along, even the packed week of corporate updates and economic data might not be enough to spur hesitant investors into action. Volatility has dropped four days in a row, and the daily volume last week was about 20% off this year’s average weekly volume.
