Trump gets bounce in polls after Republican convention
by Robert Schroeder
PHILADELPHIA (MarketWatch) — Donald Trump is leading Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House in two polls released Monday, coming after last week’s Republican National Convention and just as the Democratic National Convention opens in Philadelphia.
Trump leads Clinton 44% to 40% in a Morning Consult poll taken July 22-24, a turnaround from the prior week, when Clinton had a two-point lead. In a CNN/ORC poll, Trump takes 48% to Clinton’s 45%. The CNN finding represents a six-point bounce for Trump following last week’s Republican convention. The CNN poll was also taken July 22-24.
The new polls come on the first day of the Democrats’ convention, which opens amid fallout from hacked emails showing Democratic National Committee officials working to undermine the candidacy of Clinton’s primary-season challenger Bernie Sanders.
