Alabama state lawmakers have voted to criminalize the treatment of young people with puberty-blockers, hormone therapy, or surgery to alter their gender.
The bill: On Tuesday, the Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act, sponsored by Republican state Senator Shay Shelnutt passed the Virginia state Senate in a 23-4 vote.
The bill will head for a vote to the Alabama House of Representatives, where it is expected to pass considering the House has already approved a similar bill, CBS News reported.
The Tuesday bill requires schools to tell parents if “a minor’s perception that his or her gender is inconsistent with his or her sex.”
