An Oregon committee has reportedly proposed distributing Covid-19 vaccines based on race to combat racial inequalities.
The proposal was made by Oregon’s COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Committee, composed of 27 members from health providers and community organizations including the Oregon Pacific Islander Coalition and the Somali American Council of Oregon, The Oregonian reported.
The committee is tasked with forming “a vaccine sequencing plan focused on health equity to ensure the needs of systemically affected populations, including communities of color, tribal communities and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, are met,” according to its website.
Though the final decision rests with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Governor Kate Brown, state leaders have said they will take into account the committee’s recommendations.
