New York City has recorded more shootings in the first 7 months of 2020 than it saw last year in total.
The numbers: The city matched and surpassed the gun shooting total from the previous year on Saturday when a 24-year-old was hit outside at 135th Street and Alexander Avenue. He told police at Lincoln Hospital, where he was admitted, that he heard gunfire but did not realize he suffered a gun wound until he felt pain.
New York City now counts 777 shootings, compared to the 776 it had last year, according to the New York Post.
So far, 942 victims in New York City had been either killed or injured. Gun arrests jumped by 8% after the police department disbanded its anti-crime unit to appease Black Lives Matter protesters last month. It has since soured by 60%, according to officials who spoke with the outlet.
