Historian: Woke Politics Destroying U.S. History & Academia | Niall Ferguson | Academia | Rubin Report

from The Rubin Report

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Niall Ferguson (Historian, Author, Hoover Institute Senior Fellow) about the decline of academia, the distorting of American history in the 1619 Project and if the next generation will be woke. From Niall’s his vantage point he is seeing a backlash to the progressive woke politics that are being forced on children in school. He shares a story of his 8 year old son who told him about the WOKID-19 pandemic and how it’s more contagious than the actual pandemic. In honor of the 4th of July Niall also discusses his immigration story and why moving to America and becoming a US citizen was the right thing for him to do. Niall also discusses the decline of higher education especially in the Ivy League and at some of the best universities in the world like Oxford University. He faults an increasingly illiberal political correctness for squeezing out all diverse thought and heterodox views. He also discusses the failures of conservative professors which led to the current dominance by progressive and liberal academics. Niall also gives his opinion of the current vandalism and toppling of historic statues. Niall discusses what is wrong with the New York Times Pulitzer Prize winning 1619 Project and how it distorts American history and the founding of the United States. The practice of slavery is not what made the US unique. He thinks these journalists would be better off focusing on what actually made the US unique, it’s constitution. Niall stresses that history needs to show the successes and failures of the past and that history like the 1619 Project and Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History Of The United States” teaches a fake history by focusing only on the errors of the past. Niall discusses why he is not worried about the current wave of protests across the country or any approaching tyranny. Niall also shares how the smartphone has changed the nature of protests worldwide.
