Turbulence sent 24 people to the hospital on Thursday; why we might see more bumpier rides

Rough turbulence sent two dozen people on a JetBlue flight from Boston to Sacramento to the hospital on Thursday night, a spokesperson for the airline told media.

“People were flying all over the place,” Alan Lee, an orthopedic surgeon, wrote in an email to the Boston Globe. “If people weren’t wearing their seat belt, they hit their head on the ceiling.”

Another passenger told CNN: “People were flying out of their seat belts and hitting their head on the ceiling; it was very scary,”
