Still Report #960 – 900 Christian Leaders to Meet With Trump

from Bill Still

lass=”” >Tomorrow, Tuesday, Donald Trump and Ben Carson will host one of the largest gatherings of Christian evangelical leaders in a generation under a veil of a total media blackout. That’s right, there will be no reporters or TV cameras allowed inside.
The daylong meeting, titled: “A conversation About America’s Future with Donald Trump and Ben Carson,” will be held at the Marriott Marquis in New York and will include most of the big names in the conservative Christian community.
According to Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council:
“Many evangelicals did not support [Trump]…. we not only want to have influence but we also have to be a witness to the truth.”
Christian leaders behind the meeting solicited 50,000 questions from grass-roots activists in preparing for the event. According to Johnny Moore, the spokesperson for My Faith Votes, a non-partisan organization focused on engaging the 25 million Christians who did not vote in 2012:
“We democratized the solicitation of questions so that this meeting would be even more representative of Christians in America than the 900 people in attendance.”
“This is not a political meeting. [It is] the largest, most representative gathering of national, Christian leaders I’ve seen in my lifetime.”
This year, 140 million votes are expected to be cast in the presidential race. Adding in an additional 25 million people voting as a block who did not vote last time could easily be the difference in the race.
I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day.
