Has Facebook Abandoned the Desktop Market?

Just a quick note…..

I’ve noticed that Facebook has essentially stopped trying to advertise to me on its desktop site. There are still plenty of ads, and very obtrusive ones at that, on the mobile app — with the obtrusiveness being due to the format of the small screen (that is basically all of their ads on same consume about half of the visible viewing area!) but on the desktop site I’m seeing very close to zero advertising now, other than the “Trending” right-sidebar stuff.

Is this because Facebook has decided to do that or are advertisers simply not paying for that placement any more?

If the latter it won’t be in this quarter’s report, given the recent nature of the change.
