Hunter Biden Dishes On Crack Use, Insists “100% Certain” DoJ Probe Will Clear Him of Wrongdoing

from Zero Hedge

Following its publication of bombshell revelations concerning Hunter Biden and his alleged influence peddling, which led him to take a stake in a Chinese investment vehicle created in partnership with politically-connected individuals, the New York Post was immediately censored by Twitter and the other social media giants, as they alleged the emails, texts and other information shared by the NYPost had either been “hacked”, or were completely fraudulent.

Fast forward five months, and Hunter Biden admitted in an interview with CBS’s “Sunday Morning” program that the “laptop from hell” might indeed be his. Asked a point-blank yes-or-no question about the water-damaged laptop (which was eventually seized by the FBI’s top child porn investigator) Hunter replied that the laptop “absolutely” belonged to him, but that it could have been “hacked”, “stolen” or – who knows? He insisted that he didn’t drop it off at the laptop repair shop, contradicting the shop owner’s claims that he believed Hunter was the one who dropped them off.

They Don’t Believe It, and Aren’t Doing It

by Karl Denninger
Market-Ticker.org

But Global Warming is real and even CHINA has agreed to be carbon-neutral in the next 40 years!

Bull****.

Including decommissions, China’s coal-fired fleet capacity rose by a net 29.8 GW in 2020, even as the rest of the world made cuts of 17.2 GW, according to research released on Wednesday by Global Energy Monitor (GEM), a U.S. think tank, and the Helsinki-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).

They have roughly 250GW of additional capacity under construction and last year added more than 35GW of new approvals.

The rest of the world has, on balance, decreased coal-fired energy output.

Unfortunately with the exception of hydroelectric, which is a renewable source, so-called “green energy” is not reliable. Base load generation must be reliable and peak load generation must be dispatchable when needed in each and every case. If it’s cost-effective to use renewable sources for “fill” while the others remain available that’s fine, but it almost-never is.

A Professor Pushed Back Against ‘White Fragility’ Training. The College Investigated Her for Nine Months.

The chaos at Lake Washington Institute of Technology is by no means an isolated occurrence.

by Jesse Singal
Reason.com

Elisa Parrett, a newly tenured 38-year-old professor of English at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, the only public technical institute in Washington state, realized last June that she had some qualms about the approach her university—which is located in suburban Seattle and has about 6,000 students—had taken to diversity and inclusion.

Her concerns about the campus climate had been mounting for a while. “I wasn’t exactly open about my political positions at work, but I didn’t exactly keep them a secret either,” says Parrett, whose heterodox politics led her to vote for Green Party nominee Jill Stein in 2016 and for Donald Trump last year. “I simply avoided bringing politics up and avoided mentioning my views unless they seemed relevant to things other people had already said.” She didn’t like the rise of the concept of “safe spaces,” or certain aspects of what she calls “capital-A anti-racist pedagogy,” which she views as being distinct from mere opposition to racism.

JPMorgan’s Federally-Insured Bank Holds $2.65 Trillion in Stock Derivatives; How Did It Avoid the Archegos Blowup?

by Pam Martens and Russ Martens
Wall Street on Parade

“This raises the serious question as to whether the Senate Banking and House Financial Services Committees should be investigating the gamification of markets or the monetization of the stock market via Wall Street’s ownership of federally insured deposits.”

[…] In late March, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released its quarterly report on “Bank Trading and Derivatives Activities.” Graph 15 of the report shows that using data submitted by banks on their form RC-R of their call reports, JPMorgan Chase’s federally insured bank had exposure to $2.65 trillion in notional equity (stock) derivatives as of December 31, 2020. (Notional means face amount.)

That’s a stunning figure for the largest federally-insured bank in the United States to have in exposure to the stock market. But more stunning is the fact that according to the OCC, JPMorgan Chase’s equity derivative contracts represent 63 percent of the total $4.197 trillion of equity derivative contracts held by all federally insured banks and savings associations in the United States.

U.S. National Debt Passes $28 Trillion, +$4.7 Trillion in 13 Months. General Treasury Account Down by $480 Billion in 2 Months, $620 Billion To Go

by Wolf Richter
Wolf Street

What does it mean for the markets that the government now spends the proceeds from debt sales last spring that the Fed had monetized back then?

It finally happened, that glorious moment, when, after teetering on the verge for weeks – for reasons we’ll get into shortly – the incredibly spiking US gross national debt, after kissing the line a couple of times for a moment, finally, and suddenly by a big leap, jumped over the $28-trillion mark, with a $143-billion leap in one day on Wednesday, March 31, following some big Treasury sales. It gave some of that up on Thursday as some bonds matured. And it now amounts to $28.08 trillion, as per US Treasury Department on Friday.

The US gross national debt has now spiked by $4.7 trillion in 13 months since the end of February 2020, in the days before this show started.

The Most Normal Place in the World

by Simon Black
Sovereign Man

Two days ago, in its infinite wisdom, the government of Chile announced that they were once again closing the national borders and putting the country back into lockdown.

I had been in Chile since late February, spending time at our farms and touring our agriculture operations after a successful harvest season. But needless to say I was on the first flight out.

It’s not just Chile; these same sorts of restrictions are happening all over the world.

As we mentioned in late March, the British government has also forbidden its citizens from leaving England and imposed severe financial penalties for anyone doing so.

This is extraordinary, given that both Chile and the UK are among the top 5 most vaccinated countries in the world.

How Much Longer Will the United States Exist?

by Dr. Paul Craig Roberts
PaulCraigRoberts.org

As a geographical location, the US, not necessarily under that name, can exist for a long time. But as a nation the US no longer exists. A nation requires a homogeneous population, which the US does not have, and far more unity than exists today in the US. Once past the colonial era when the immigration gates were opened, the English population was diluted with Irish, Italians, Poles, Jews, and a variety of other European peoples. With sensible immigration policies and requirements, the US was able to assimilate diverse European ethnicities into an English rule of law, English civil liberties, and the English language. These successful efforts of assimilation were abandoned decades ago and supplanted by “multiculturalism” and “diversity.” Today the US is a Tower of Babel.

Today the US is too diverse to live under the same laws. For example,Democrats have stated their intention of destroying the Second Amendment.

The Tyranny of the “Enlightened” Experts

by Gregory Gordon
Mises.org

If you were to stroll through any typical upper-middle-income American neighborhood in 2021, the odds are very high that you’d observe at least one yard sign exuberantly proclaiming something like this: “In this house, we believe that science is real, love is love, no human is illegal … ” and other banal tautologies. There are usually six or seven examples in this litany, but really, one of the main goals of the yard sign—aside from signaling virtue—can be accomplished with just this: the curtsy to Science.

In a country where the traditional definition of virtue has “evolved” and the search for metaphysical truth has largely been sidelined, millions of Americans seem to believe that there is no higher truth than the Science and that there are no more virtuous citizens than those who deferentially submit to the experts, the societal planners, and the proclaimers of the Science. We can thank the Enlightenment for this spirit of scientism, as Science has now been fully separated from teleology (i.e., “goal directedness”) and final causality, which many elites consider to be backward Medieval thinking.

The IRS Wants to Know All About Your Bitcoin Holdings – and This Court Summons is a Reminder

There’s a problem with under-reporting crypto transactions, the tax collection agency says

by Andrew Keshner
Market Watch

The IRS wants Circle, a Boston-based financial technology company enabling trade in various types of cryptocurrencies, to produce account-registration information, account activity records and other materials for customers who had at least $20,000 in transactions any year from 2016 to 2020.

Cryptocurrency has gained prominence and value over the year, but the IRS says tax reporting hasn’t kept up.

The IRS issued Circle with a summons, which is part of an ongoing investigation by the Internal Revenue Service to make sure all sorts of cryptocurrency users across the board are reporting and paying up their tax obligations, the government explained in court papers.

Gold SWOT: Gold Sees First Quarterly Drop in More Than Two Years

by Frank Holmes
GoldSeek

Strengths

– The best performing precious metal for the holiday-shortened week was platinum, up 2.08%. The metal is expected to remain in deficit for 2021 as South African supplies will remain at risk of electricity disruptions and the growing use of fuel cells creates a new market where diesel fueled engines decline in the future.

– Gold rebounded from a nine-month low on Friday as investors weighed the impact of President Biden’s $2.25 trillion stimulus plan that would be paid for by a corporate tax increase. “The tax increase implications taking a bit of pressure off yields makes sense, and so it’s net positive for gold, at the margin short-term,” said Marcus Garvey, head of metals and bulk and commodity strategy at Macquarie Group Ltd.

– Gold held onto its gain this weekend even as the U.S. manufacturing sector saw a significant rise in sentiment in March. ISM said its manufacturing index hit 64.7 last month, up from 60.8 in February.

Many School Districts Refusing to Commit to In-Person Reopening in the Fall as Teachers Unions Continue to Move Goalposts

by Ashe Schow
Daily Wire

Even as the coronavirus pandemic wanes and vaccines become readily available, school districts across the country continue to refuse to commit to fully reopening in the fall.

The Washington Post reported on the disparate approaches schools are taking when it comes to school in the fall.

“School districts across the country are planning to return to full-time, in-person classes this fall. But some also are planning for hybrid systems that combine in-person and remote learning as a fallback. All teachers and staff who want vaccinations will have them, but children will not. Masks and other virus mitigation measures will remain in place in much of the country,” the outlet reported. “Some administrators anticipate lunch in the cafeteria again, but others say students probably will have to eat in their classrooms. Some say sports and choir can return. Others aren’t sure.”

Hunter Biden Casts Doubt on Secret Service Involvement in Gun Incident, Contradicting His Own Text Messages from 2019

by Chuck Ross
DailyCaller.com

Hunter Biden said he does not believe that the Secret Service got involved in a search for his handgun after his sister-in-law and then-girlfriend threw it in a trash can in October 2018.

Biden’s comments in a CBS “This Morning” interview on Monday would appear to conflict with text messages he reportedly sent several months after the incident in which he referred to Secret Service involvement in the search for his gun.

“I don’t know whether the Secret Service were, or why they would be. I don’t think that’s true, to my knowledge,” Biden said in an interview with CBS News regarding reports that the Secret Service intervened in the Oct. 23, 2018 incident.

Rachel Levine: Transgender Drugs, Surgeries for Minors ‘Health Equity Issue’

by Dr. Susan Berry
Breitbart.com

Rachel Levine, assistant secretary of the Biden Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), criticized efforts in some states to ban minors from obtaining transgender drugs and surgeries, saying such bans constitute a “health equity issue.”

During an interview last week with NPR, transgender Levine said bills banning young people from accessing drugs, such as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries, such as elective double mastectomies, as well as bans against males competing in women’s sports are all “really challenging to see.”

Levine, born Richard Levine, said these transgender issues are not political, but very appropriate to address by one of the nation’s top health officials.

Why Have the Courts Been Deferential to Lockdowns?

by Ethan Yang
The American Institute for Economic Research

I think it’s safe to say that the United States is finally ending its experiment with the lockdown policies that have not only greatly failed but managed to unleash untold collateral damage on society. It doesn’t take a degree in political science to understand that if action is not taken now to prevent future abuses of power, they will happen again with increasing frequency and intensity. In a previous article, I covered how emergency powers are essentially the driving force behind the state’s ability to implement lockdowns. In that, I explained some basic, bipartisan reforms to the use of such powers which are now being debated in state legislatures across the country. In several articles, I have covered some of the legal victories against lockdowns and explored some of the legal theories that are holding ground in court. One common question that always arises is why and how can the courts be so friendly to lockdowns when they seem so unconstitutional. The answer is complicated but there is one important factor that applies to just about everything else in public affairs: public opinion.

Twitter Suspends Marjorie Taylor Greene’ Account ‘In Error’ Again

[Ed. Note: Rather than continually calling it “an accident”, why not just admit that, for better or worse, their low-level human-review staffers are a gaggle of batshit-crazy leftist millennials.]

by Penka Arsova
LaCorte News

Twitter briefly suspended the account of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on Sunday, citing an “error” and blaming its automated systems.

The story: Twitter suspended the account for 12 hours on Sunday. Greene, according to Mediaite, took to Gab suggesting her conservative views and faith might have triggered the temporary ban.

“After tweeting, ‘He is risen! Happy Easter!’ I was suspended this morning for 12 hours!! Was it my Christian faith?” she wrote, according to a screenshot of her post. Greene also listed her opposition to abortion, and her “willingness to fire Fauci,” referring to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, as possible reasons behind the move.

“Maybe my fight to stop mandated vaccine passports? Or how about calling out Ilhan Omar?” Green continued, adding a message to Big Tech that read: “You can’t silence me. You can’t stop me. The People are with me. And so are the greatest conservatives especially President Trump!!!”
