Twitter has confirmed that calling Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, the person who killed 10 people in Boulder, Colorado this week, a “white Christian terrorist” does not break the platform’s rules.
How we got here: The 21-year-old Alissa opened fire at a crowded supermarket in Boulder. He killed 10 people, including a police officer, before he was arrested by the police. The attack came a week after 21-year-old Robert Aaron killed eight people in Atlanta.
[…] Before Alissa’s identity was disclosed to the public, many users on social media speculated that the shooter was white. They suggested the killings were yet another example of white supremacy and racial justice in the U.S. Some even suggested that the police did not shoot the perpetrator because he was white.
Later on Tuesday, however, it was revealed that Alissa came to the U.S. from Syria and that he was Muslim.
