President Trump announced on Twitter today that he is not going to the inauguration of Joe Biden later this month.
What he said: The president tweeted his plans about Biden’s swearing-in ceremony on Friday, after regaining access to his Twitter account. “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20,” the president wrote.
[…] A person close to the president told Politico that he and First Lady Melania Trump plan to leave for his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida one day before Biden is scheduled to take the oath of office. A former senior administration official said the president might hold a rally that day as well.
Vice President Mike Pence is expected to attend the inauguration, Politico first reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. “It was a much more difficult decision days ago, but less difficult now,” one person said, likely referring to the events that unfolded at the Capitol on Wednesday.
