Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez exchanged swipes on Twitter Monday after lawmakers left for their Thanksgiving recess without agreeing on a new coronavirus relief package.
“People across the country are going hungry, COVID is set to explode, and Mitch McConnell dismissed the Senate last week,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Monday. “I don’t know how these people can sleep at night. I really don’t.”
Cruz fired back, pointing to Democrats repeatedly refusing to agree on the GOP’s smaller, $500 billion relief bill backed by most Republicans.
“Why is your party filibustering $500 billion in COVID relief? And Joe Biden is cheering them on. Thinking that blocking relief somehow helps Dems win Georgia,” Cruz wrote.
