A few days ago I accidentally set off my panic alarm. A policeman promptly showed up at my door. He was ready for whatever situation was awaiting him. I was a little embarrassed and felt bad that I might diverted him from another more important call. He was gracious and quickly departed.
Think about it, how many cities and towns across the country have defunded and undermined their police departments? I am very fortunate that the police in my town still make house calls, even when there’s a near certainty that it’s a false alarm. We owe these brave men and women a debt of gratitude.
Just imagine living in Chicago, New York, Seattle, Portland or Minneapolis. You hit the panic button for a real emergency and there’s a very strong likelihood that your cry for help will go unanswered. A direct result of the social unrest and rioting that’s sweeping these cities. It is truly a national disgrace.
As if it needed to be said, legitimate protest is protected by the 1st Amendent to the Constitution. Rioting, looting, assaulting policemen and arson are not. The mayors of these cities are clearly complicit in these anti-social activities taking place. They play a strong supporting role and probably believe it’s why they were elected. What other explanation for why they’ve done absolutely nothing to curtail it?
The refusal by the governors of NY, IL, WA, OR and MI to do something about these cities makes them co-conspirators in this blatant movement to bring down the country. Every state governor has the power to remove local officials who are grossly derelict in their job performance or who have committed criminal acts. In addition, they have the right to call in the National Guard to end out of control rioting. In Washington and Minneapolis, the guardsmen were called up and deliberately disarmed and played only a terrtiary role in supporting the police.
While it’s tempting to demand that President Trump call out the army, which he clearly has the right to do under the Insurreciton Act of 1807, it will only play into the hands of his enemies. Therefore, it is up to the honest taxpaying citizens of these areas to lay down the law to these miscreants themselves. It is after all why we have a Second Amendment. And of course they need to vote these scoundrels out of office, for that is the ultimate accountability measure.
My question is how much longer are the people going to put up with this?
