The English Department at Rutgers University announced several directives and initiatives in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, including an effort that deemphasizes traditional grammar rules seemingly in a bid at inclusivity.
The story: The changes for the upcoming year were announced by Rebecca Walkowitz, the English Department chair at Rutgers University, in an email on Juneteenth titled: “Department actions in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.” The email states that the English Department at Rutgers has come up with a “way to contribute to the eradication of systemic inequities facing black, indigenous, and people of color.”
