Multiple Arrests as Police Begin Clearing the ‘CHOP’ in Seattle

“CHOP” is no more.

The Seattle Police Department on Wednesday arrested at least 13 people who refused to leave the “CHOP” area, despite several warnings and after an executive order declaring the zone unlawful gathering.

[…] Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan issued a 48-hour executive order formally labeling the zone as an “unlawful assembly” and calling on city agencies to help disband “CHOP.” The order comes after violence in the area, including at least two fatal shootings.

The police in Seattle are clearing the six-block area known as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest that protesters occupied on June 11 after forcing police officers out of the East Precinct. They said officers taking part in the sweep of holdouts are wearing “a higher-level of protective gear,” citing the violence in the area.
