Who gets to decide what you should know about what happened in “The Room Where It Happened”. President Trump doesn’t want you to read former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s new White House memoir, alleging national security concerns. Bolton’s lawyers say the book has been reviewed in the customary way, and approved. It’s already been printed (slated for release June 23), and is in the hands of reviewers, and European customers. Should top government officials have to abide by non-disclosure agreements? Do we empower a president to clamp down on free speech to protect his own reputation, or reelection prospects? How can we know whether an administration’s objections constitute legitimate national security issues?
