Quaker to Remove Aunt Jemima, Says She’s ‘Based On a Racial Stereotype’

Quaker Oats announced plans to rename and replace the image from its 130-year-old breakfast brand, Aunt Jemima, over accusations that it perpetuates racial stereotypes.

What they’re saying: The company said Wednesday that the brand will get a new look as part of its effort “to make progress toward racial equality.”

“We recognize Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype. As we work to make progress toward racial equality through several initiatives, we also must take a hard look at our portfolio of brands and ensure they reflect our values and meet our consumers’ expectations,” Kristin Kroepfl, vice president and chief marketing officer of Quaker Foods North America, told Fox News.
