Josh Sigurdson reports on news out of Jalisco, Mexico as the country is gripped by outrage over the murder of a man by police due to the fact that he’s not wearing a mask near Guadalajara.
As businesses that were previously closed, called “non-essential” begin to open, a man by the name of Giovanni López was out with his family having dinner. While leaving, he was stopped by police for not wearing a mask and was immediately wrestled to the ground, beaten and killed. His autopsy shows severe brain trauma. His family was offered a bribe if they would not post the video on social media. They denied the bribe and posted the video.
This video has lead to nationwide outrage as #justiciaparagiovanni trends!
Mexico is without a doubt in most cases more free than the United States and we are happy to live in Mexico, but government is government no matter where you are. Government is organized crime and the police are the violent arm of the state.
As riots grip the United States, there are signs that millions of Mexicans are ready to rise up, not just because of Giovanni, but because of the level of jobs wiped out in recent days and businesses in places like Puerto Vallarta that continue to be forced to stay closed.
Dismay with governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez continues to worsen and eventually something’s gotta give.
