Collectivism has no place in personal affairs. It kills the mind, body and spirit by negating the individual. Yet, according to Russian philosopher Nikolai Berdyaev, individualism is only a short step in the right direction.

[…] Berdyaev is called the “philosopher of freedom” because freedom, according to him, precedes existence. Therefore, freedom of individual human beings must reign supreme.

“Freedom,” he wrote, “is the ultimate: it cannot be derived from anything: it cannot be made the equivalent of anything. Freedom is the baseless foundation of being: it is deeper than all being.”
