Decentralize Everything #2: Death to Facebook

“Facebook is a centralized behemoth that performs psychological experiments on its users,” David Vorick, founder of decentralized storage startup Sia, says in an interview with Invesd.

“It has terrible terms of service and an abusive privacy policy. Facebook is not really at risk of being supplanted either, because it’s got enough network effect to shut down all of its competitors.”

This, Vorick says, is a problem. And it shouldn’t be this way. The user should have more control over his or her data than the platform.

Fortunately… a few solutions are popping up that can, in fact, supplant Facebook and put the users in the driver’s seat of their own information.
