Before you go out and buy a property at a foreclosure or tax lien sale, you must understand how to do a title search. There’s a lot of information on the internet on doing simple titile searches. Some properties have a very convoluted complex history and you should go and get a title company or an experienced person to review your work. Other times the history of the property is much simpler and you won’t have as much work to do. When you’re starting out, it always pays to have a more experienced person to take a look over your shoulder to be certain that you’re not making a mistake. Many newbies have lost big by not understanding title chains and lien laws. So better safe than sorry!
